- Getting started on Textbookhog:
First of all, you need to register by clicking on Free Registration icon on the home page or choose register from the menu and go through registration process. You are then ready to start business! As a member you have the option of buying, selling and swapping your books. All of those optionsare covered in detail in its own sections.
- Managing your account and your homepage:
Once you're logged in, you will see the members' menu for different sections. The sections are as follows:
- Messaging- this is where you see all the sent and received messages between you and other users and also a copy of messages from textbookhog.com will be delivered here as well.
- Buying- this is where you can track your items that you have purchased or bid,invoices that you have recived andfavorite stores. You can also find the items that is flagged by you to be watched.
- Selling- here you can keep track of your listing items whether they're closed, open or scheduled to go online. Plus, there are a whole lot of other options that are discussed separately on "Selling" section.
- Reputation- this is where you can see your own rating and also proceed to leave feedback and ratings formembers whom you've done business with. Please refer to the section "What is seller reputation rating and how to leave feedback?" to learn more about it
- About Me- here you can say some words about yourself and by enabling it, users will be able to see it.
- My Store- here you are able to manage your stores. For instructions on how to open a Textbookhog store, refer to "Using Textbookhog Stores ".
- Wanted Ads-This is where you can post and manage your wanted ads. See "What is a Wanted Ads "section for more detail
- My Account- Here you can manage your personal account, modify your personal information such as address, phone, direct payment methods and also see your account history. You can set your email preferences and report any abuses as well.
- How do we protect your account and privacy?
Textbookhog is doing its best to protect its users information through secured SSL connection which encrypts any information that is passed through internet, firewall and password protected content. This information includes users' basic personal information and direct payment email address, however, Textbookhog does not directly ask for credit card or any other financial account information. Additionally, Textbookhog's users privacy is protected as it is specified under Privacy and Policy . Nevertheless, users should refer to "What should you know to protect your personal information? " to learn how to take additional steps to protect their personal information.
- What should I know to protect my personal information?
In addition to Textbookhog's own protection plan, users should take extra measures to protect their personal information by using the following guidelines: - Always choose a strong password. A password including both small and capital letters, numbers and special characters is considered a strong password. Also, change your password periodically.
- Report any suspicious emails and activity. You can identify any suspicious activities by monitoring you account activities.
- Make sure your computer is protected by security software such as anti-virus and anti-spyware software. Have your automatic update and firewall enabled.
- Make sure the a copy of the email that is received from Textbookhog is not fake. A copy of the message has to be saved in your messaging inbox in your member section of textbookhog.
- Beware of "spoof" emails. (Email Spoofing on Wikipedia).

Textbookhog.com has its own rules and policies in order to make a good and fair place for members to trade their goods. These rules and policies are as follows and textbookhog.com is highly enforces these rules:
- Return & Warranties Policy.
It is completely at members discretion to provide warranties and stipulate the return policy on their listing. It's is highly recommended to use a verbose explanation of warranties and return policies and make the buyers aware of any violation that would void them. textbookhog.com is not responsible for providing warranties and returns. Members, however, can contact the dispute resolution department, should any problem arise.

- How to bid on an item.
If the item is listed as an auction item you can go ahead and bid on it. However, there are several things that you need to know before you start buying: - Always read through the listing and make sure you're buying the right thing. There are many similar items on the market.
- Be aware of the shipping costs, warranties and return policies.
- Review the members' reputaion rating and all the feedback which they have received.
- Check frequently to see any possible revisions.
- You have the option to contact the seller if you have any questions about an item.
There many purchase options available such as: regular bidding, buy out, item swapping you can also make an offer on an item. To find an item for purchase, you should use the search field located on the top of your homepage. After you've purchased the item, you must send your payment to the seller and pay for all the fees stated on the listing. The payment options are determined by the seller and are incorporated in the listing. The buyer is bound and must use the listed payment option.
- What is item swapping?
This option has to be enabled by seller. This way buyers and seller do not deal with the direct monetery transactions but instead the communicate with each other by swapping their items. Please note that item swapping is not covered by textbookhog.com dispute resolution department.
- What is a wanted ad?
Buyers can post a wanted ad for items they are looking for. To post a wanted ad go to the "Wanted Ads" homepage and click on Submit Wanted Ads then follow the instructions. Sellers can then find you and offer you the items that they have already listed. The listing that is offered by the seller in response your wanted ad is just like he regular auction listing.
- How do I keep track of my bids?
There are means provided to members to keep track of their bids. "Watch an item" is a good tool to use when you find an auction that you would like to participate in later on. When you click on "Watch this item" link at the top of the listing, this item can be easily located later by clicking on "Watched Items" under Buying menu in the member area. Under Buying section of the member area you can track your purchases that are closed and auctions that you have won or currently bidding on. Please note that you must be logged-in in order to see these options. Additionally, you can manage your invoices and see your favourite stores that you flagged as your favorite here.
- What is the "Buy-out" option?
Buy-out is an option provided by a seller in addition to the regular auction format . This way the buyer does not have to wait until the auction has ended and can choose to buy the item by clicking on the buy-out link on the listing.
- Can I ask the seller a question?
Yes, you can ask a seller a question. On the listing page there is a box called "Ask a seller a question" where you can type and submit your questions. The seller has to respond to your question within a reasonable time. If the questions are not responded to by the seller within a reasonable time before you attempt to bid an item, you have the option not to bid and ignore the listing. We suggest to clarify everything with the seller before purchasing or bidding on the item.
- What is the seller reputation rating and how do I leave feedback and the rules?
The reputation rating of a seller or a buyer is built-up over time as they participate in different trasactions. This is a useful tool to assess a buyer or a seller to see how they have treated the other members and how they have done business with others in the past. After you as a buyer or a seller have completed the bidding/purchase process or have received your item or payments and fees and made sure that the other party has performed based on the promised rules that are specified within the listing, it is recommended to rate each other and let others know about your experience by leaving a comment.
- How do I resolve a purchase or bidding issue?
Should any problem arise, members should contact the textbookhog as it is specified on the Contact us page to resolve any disputes. The resolution of the issue is up to textbookhog team due to the different nature of each dispute.
- Shipping costs
Shipping cost must be specified by seller on the listing. The seller will specify whether they pay for the shipping or the buyer is responsible. Always note the shipping cost in different listings as it can greatly differ.
- International bidding:
As of right now, textbookhog does not accept any international transactions at this time.
- Rules for Buyers:
To make a fair environment for all the members to trade on textbookhog, there are some rules and policies that all buyers should be aware of. Those rules are as follows: - You are bound to pay the seller if you are the buyer or the highest bidder. Once you have comitted to buying or participating in a bid, you have agreed to a contract between you and the seller on the basis of the content of the listing. Voilation to this rule may result in full listing fee refund to the seller and termination of the buyer's account. Should any disputes arise, textbookhog reserves the right to make the final decision.
- The buyer may be eligable to retract a bid if there is an honest mistake or there is significant change of listing during the time the the buyer is involved. Again it is at textbookhog descretion to assess this situation on whether or not to agree to the bid retraction.
- Any false bidding practices such as using a false account, shill bidding and etc. are stricly prohibited.
- Using any tools or means to do outside business with the members are against textbookhog policy.
Members can report any violations to abuse@textbookhog.com .
- How do I list an item?
Selling an item is as simple as taking a few clicks but on the following list you will see the required information before you post your listing. - You must be a registered user
- Make sure you know the rules for sellers.
- Be aware of the payment service options that are available for you, such as PayPal and Google Checkout.
Below is the list of actions you must take in order to complete your listing:
- Go through the listing process by clicking on the "Sell" link at the top and select your category.
- On the Step 1 you can add as many book as you want, you just need to know the ISBN number and you can insert them one by one in each textbox. There is a Add Field link on the page by which you can add more textbox for your inputs.
- On Step 2 you will see the list of the books and a little snapshot of their font covers. You also need to choose between the auction style and fixed here. These options are explained here.
- Step 3 is where you specify the sprice list and other features. According to the choice that you have made on step 2, if it's a fixed price listing you will have to specify the fixed price, quantity and the category. If it's an auction style you will have to specify the starting price, whether you want the buyers to make an offer to you or if you would like to swap your item. Other features such as featured listings are avaialbe for both options. Allthe listing features are explained in the little tool tip next to the items.
- On Step 4 you can schedule your listing. You can either start your listing right away or schedule for later. Also you have a little box that you can insert the book condition.Depending on your listing style, if you have chosen the auction stye you will have the auto listing option in which you can specify if you want your listing to be relisted if your items is not sold. By typing a number in that field box your item will be automatically relisted for that number of times. The shipping charge and shipping carier needs to be specifed also. and last item will be the payment method. Using the specified method buyers can make their payments to you.
- The next step you can preview your listing and after you review the terms and conditions you can list your item.
During th elisting process you always have the chance to go back and edit your listing.
- What are the fees?
Fees are always subject to change and will be visible to all member through the Site Fees link at the top of the page.
- Can I make revisions on my listing?
Yes, you can but with the following limitations: - You can only modify your item's description.
- You can delete your auction only if no bidders have bid on the item.
Once you logged in, by clikcing on Selling on the memebers' area menu, you will see a list of all open listings that you have posted. in front of each item you can click on Edit Listing link to edit your listing.
- Can I close my listing?
You can delete your listing only if no bidders have bid on your item and also close your auction only if this option is available through the site.
- What listing options do I have?
Below are the listing options and their descriptions: - Fixed Price: This way you list your items in a fixed price rather than auction style.
- Item swapping: Through this option members can swap their items and agree on the terms. In this option, members do not pay for the items except the textbookhog.com fees for listing and end of auction (if there is any). Dispute through this option is not covered by textbookhog.com.
- Standard Auction: you will be able to set a strting price for your item and the bidder with the highest price will be the winner.
- What is the Best offer option?
If you have choosen your listing as auction style, during the listing process you can accept offers by enabling it. That way buysers will be able to make a best offer on your item.
- What is the reserve price?
The reserve price is set by seller to ensure that the item is not sold below a certain price. For example, an item is listed for $100 but you want to ensure that you will not sell your item under $80 so you can set $80 as your reserve price. Buyers can still bid on the item but it will not be sold untill the reserve price is met.
- How to keep track of my sale?
When you logged in, you have a whole list of options in the Member Area section unser Selling menu: - Open Auctions: You can see your open listings or auctions here.
- Items with Bids/Offers: By clicking on this link you will be able to see your listings that have received offers and bids.
- Scheduled Auctions: If you specified any of your auctions to be posted on a certain date and time during the selling process, you are able to see them here.
- Closed Auctions: Here you can see the Auctions that are closed, deleted or closed early.
- Drafts: You can save your listing before going through the complete process for later use and see them here.
- Sold items: Here you will see the list of items that were sold previously.
- Invoices sent: By clicking on this link you will see the all the old invoices that were sent by you to the buyers.
- Fees calculator:. This is a tool to calculate your listing fees conveniently before posting your auctions.
- Prefilled Fields: Regular sellers may find that they have certain fields that always require the same data to be entered into them. The Prefilled Fields page allows this information to be saved and automatically populated into your auction listings. It acts as small templates for your listings.
- Block Users: Here you can see the users that are blocked by you and manage them.
- Suggest a Category: Members have the option to suggest a new or additional catergories here.
- Using textbookhog.com Stores:
Textbookhog.com allows sellers to operate their own private stores (fees may apply). They can customize the appearance of the store and the categories used within it and include detailed information about their business and their stock. - To get started with stores, go to the My Store section of the Members' Area and select Subscription Setup
- At the top, you will see a summary of your store subscription status, showing subscription payment dates and the number of items presently listed. If you have not had a store before, the Store Status will disabled.
- To setup a store, ensure the Enable Store check box is checked.
- Select the type of store you wish to operate.
- Click Proceed to activate the store and confirm your choices.
Your store is now ready for use, although you should probably consider adding some further information to it using the Main Settings, Store Pages and Custom Categories sections, which are explained below
- How to resolve a selling/payment dispute?
All members can contact textbookhog.com by filling out the form on the contact us page, should any problems or any disputes arise. The final decision on the disputes vary as the nature of disputes differ. As a rule of thumb, if a buyer does not pay the seller for no legitimate reason, the buyer is subject to be charged for the agreed amount or the listing fee or the seller will be refunded.
- International listings:
International listings are not allowed at this time.
- Block a user:
Members have the option of blocking a user by clicking on Block Users link on the left pane under selling category. Then you can add users using Add User link.
- What is the seller reputation rating and how to leave feedback and the rules?
All the members can benefit from the seller reputatuion on their buying assessment. The rating and the comments coresponding to it shows how users rate the experience they had with a particular seller. It is also very helpful to let other users know about your experince with a seller. Sellers or buyers who feel they have received unfair or false feedback can contact textbookhog by filling out the form on the contact us page. If textbookhog.com finds particular complaints ligitimate, it could delete the feedback from the user's rating history. Users must not use profanity or vulgar language in their comments.
- Wanted ads:
Members can post wanted ads for items they are looking for. By clicking on Wanted Ads on the top of the page you can post your ad. In order to post an ad users must be logged in.
- Rules for sellers:
Just like buyers, sellers have to follow these rules in order to create a fair environment for everyone on textbookhog.com to participiate in trading. Besides the terms and conditions that a seller agrees during the listing, below are some common rules that sellers need to be aware of: - There must be no outside transactions between the sellers and members on the listed items and they are not allowed to use any of textbookhog resources to do outside transactions.
- It is recomended to sellers to identify any revisions on their listing in order to avoid any future disputes. As a common courtesy sellers should not put off their revisions to the last minute.
- Sellers are bound to make their payments to textbookhog.
- Sellers must not use inappropriate language or words that might be inferred by others as profane or insulting in their listing.
- Sellers cannot post any inappropriate items as listed under prohibited items section of this help
- Prohibited items:
Textbookhog is an online store facilitating selling, buying and trading books and textbooks, therefore all other items that are not categorized within the category are not allowed to be listed and will be removed when noticed or reported. However, if the item is classified as a book or a textbook then its content must be within the academic acceptance and scope. For example, if a book is about drugs, anarchy, racism or any shape of form that is against the norm and is controversial will be prohibited unless it is considered an academic textbook and accepted by academics within the jurisdiction where textbookhog is operating. Additionally, any items that violate copyright and intellectual property rights will not be allowed. It is at discretion of textbookhog.com to determine whether or not an item violates any of the above mentioned rules.
- What are the fees?
Users can refer to the Site Fees link located on the top of homepage to see all the updated fees.
- What type of payment does textbookhog accept?
Texbookhog at this time only accepts PayPal and Google Checkout.
- How much do I have to pay textbookhog.com as a buyer ?
Nothing. Buyers are not paying any commition to textbookhog only sellers after the sale pay a fee that is listed on the Site Fees page.
